….-*DIY Fairy Blythe Wings Tutorial!! *-….

Hello My Lovely Friends!

So I’ve put together a little DIY Tutorial for you. This Tutorial explains how to take wire-trimmed ribbon and create fairy wings for a doll. In this case, it’s for a blythe doll, but the concept can really care over to any doll I think! So first things first:

#1}…Take the wire-trimmed ribbon of your choice. I have many colors of this stuff from years of Christmas gifts. I planned to reuse them for my own gift-giving ventures, but I was needing to create some fairy wings for a blythe doll I was working on. I was wondering how I could possibly accomplish this. Then, I remembered this ribbon! :) First, you want to twist the ribbon to create a bit of a fairy wing-like point like shown below. Use the doll’s body that you are intending it for, so you can get an idea of the proportions that you want to achieve.

photo 1

#2}…Next, do the same thing on the other end and create a twist in the center as well. This is where the body will lay on top of the wings.

photo 2

#3}…Now do a small set for the bottom half of the wings. Your wings should look similar to the picture below (but, really the possiblities are endless and you can make many different styles of these, I’m sure.):

photo 3

#4}…Now put the doll body on top to get an idea of what she might look like…

photo 1

#5}…Now, what I did was I cut near the wire-trim edge of a spare piece of the ribbon, so that I could use the scraps to attach the top and the bottom of the wings together:

 photo 2

#6}…Now, you can take that piece of wire from the ribbon (it will be the same color as your ribbon, so it will match.) ^_^ Take that wire and twist it around the top and bottom wing pieces so they can be one piece:

photo 3

#7}…Next, you will have excess wire hanging off the wings, so use this to your advantage and twist it in front of the waist of your doll like a belt. :) This will be how the wings stay put.

photo 4

YAY! Now that’s what I’m talking about!! ^.^ Below you will see two different ways to wear the wings. The first one is with the belt hidden inside the dress. On the second example, the belt is on the outside and showing. I didn’t like the way the belt inside the dress looked. It changed the shape of her dress in an awkward way, so I decided to just go with the second look, keeping the belt shown:

I have a new youtube series coming up on my YouTube channel which will show you all my custom process for my dolls. I’m currently uploading Part One as we speak. My youtube name is “maceyloubrown” in case you wanted to check those videos out! Below are some photos showing some things I’ve worked on lately, some recorded in video and some not:

Below are some new shots of my studio. ^_^ It’s finally coming along nicely. I still have some cleaning//organizing to do, which you can’t see here because I am really good with the crop tool, lol, but soon I hope to have a fully functional and practical (as well as beautiful) studio! Hope you enjoy these photos!! :)

Below is a “Lomo” wall I created by taping some instagram photos together. To print my photos from my phone, I used an app called Kicksend. My photos didn’t make it to my house at first, but I contacted the app company and they resent them quick! AND the photos look AMAZING!! Love the quality of these. ^_^

♥ ☆ .• Our New Home! ☆ .• ♥

Hello Lovely Friendzies!

So, on December 13th, we closed on a house!! It’s an exciting time! But you know what wasn’t an exciting time?…the moving part…but that’s over now, and it’s time to get things organized! It’s also time for a little home-warming inspiration! I’ve been pinning and pinning away on pinterest, which as we all know, means that I’ve been sitting on my toosh not doing a thing in the minutes (*cough* HOURS) that I’ve been pinning. So I thought today, I’d start to tackle my studio. Well, the kitchen is pretty much done, except a bit of clutter left on the far end of the counter, so I’m happy with the cleanliness of that room so far. The living room is like 90% complete when it comes to things being put away. There are only one medium sized box and a small box left, as well as the Christmas tree to be put away. But I’ll show you a sneak peek of the living room later in this post.

First, let’s talk about my studio. It needs a LOT of work! I have lots of nice built-ins, shelves, desks, and even a closet! I have no excuse not to find room for all this stuff! I must focus on deciding what will be housed where…

Studio Clutter to be Cleaned and Organized soon

I have a place for my sewing machine, but I haven’t moved the pull-out shelf yet.

Sewing Machine and pullout shelves

There’s a really pretty light fixture in this room: a floral light fixture fan. I usually hate fans and the light fixtures that accompany them (but LOVE them in the summer heat. haha), but this one I think I like as is for now.

Then there’s the barbie dollhouse. The barbie dollhouse I grew up playing dolls with. My mom found it, and took it out of storage for me about a year ago or so. Maybe 2 years ago now. Trying to decide if I should paint such a sentimental piece, or keep it exactly as it is. I’ve seen what people with the right skills can do by painting a dollhouse exactly like this one, but not sure if I should…thoughts?

On to the living room! I’m only showing you a small part of it for now…gotta keep you in suspense. (Haha, you can actually see additional photos on my instagram page. Just search for: maceyloubrown).

This first photo is of one of the two built-in cabinets in our living room. I definitely want to paint it at some point. Haven’t decided on the color yet, but it will most likely be a light one.

cabinet full of cute things such as a little kiddles lunch box filled with crayons, a blythe doll with big eyes, and pretty books

And below is one of the many pretty fake candles my mom got me for Christmas this past year. (She also got me some exterior Christmas lights and mini candles, too!) These things actually flicker! :)

On to the dining room…I love our placemats. It’s too bad we are one short though. Got them at Pier 1 for a steal! I think they were 50 cents or 25 cents each a few years back!

Oh, and no Macey-fide anything would be complete without something to do with macaroons! Yes, I have a baking book just on how to make different flavors of macaroons!

And here’s my hubby, Derek, who decided this was the best and laziest way to socialize (his words, not mine) on his various social networks:

Goodnight everyone! Sleep tight! Don’t let the ladybugs bite! (Did I mention our house is home to lots of ladybugs? haha)

Snowy Scene Decoration Tutorial: for Your Shelf or Coffee Table

Hello my lovelies!

I decided to post a quick and easy tutorial for you all. I got the idea from all the mason jar snow globes and such floating around on Pinterest lately. I have had the materials for a while, except the actual jars, so I decided to finally try out this DIY.

12-2-12_step_112-2-12_step_212-2-12_step_3

#1} First, you will need some teeny miniature trees (mine are around 4 inches tall).

#2} Next, you will need some miniature deer (mine are around 2 inches tall). I untied the strings and took them off the deer.

#3} Thirdly, You will need some sort of container, whether it be a rectangular vase like mine here or it could be a jar, anything you can easily see the scene through. (My vase is around 6 inches tall.)

12-2-12_step_412-2-12_step_512-2-12_step_6

#4} Then, you will need some sort of fake snow. The type you use is really up to you. I have purchased Buffalo Snow Flakes – “Iridescent Sprinkles”…It is very sparkly and not the most realistic snow, but I liked it.

#5} Next, pour some of the fake snow in your container. I only filled it up to about an inch or less, enough to conceal the bases of the trees.

#6} After you place and arrange your trees and the deer, you’re all done! Yay! Now all that’s left to do is find out where you want to display it. I have mine on my work desk for now, to keep the area festive.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Let me know what you think! I’m glad I’m finally making use of a wonderful pin that I’ve pinned on Pinterest. It feels great to accomplish one of the DIYs that can be found there. What do you think, my lovelies?

Getting Back to Life

Hello,

my readers, if you’re still there…

Where-

I just got over the worst illness of my entire life, and I feel like I should write a little something about it. When you go through a huge life roadblock or a giant life change, it can really open your eyes. I have decided to change, at least as much as possible, for the better.

You know how you get used to your routine and it all seems safe and repetitive? Well, I’d say that sort of happened to me before I got sick. I was used to my routine and I had many stresses to overcome, but I did, day by day, overcome them–for the most part anyway. I get very stressed at work, and I get through it. I always worried about what people thought of me, and I still do. I worry what it will be like once I get back to work Monday after a week of being gone. I wonder how people will act toward me and whether or not it will feel the same. You know what I mean? I guess all I can do is live in the now.

It’s so hard for me to live in the now. I almost never really do it. I think about tomorrow, the next day, the next, and the next, worrying and worrying what will happen next. This is much too depressing. One shouldn’t live that way at all. Each moment should be lived and cherished, but that’s easier said than acted upon, isn’t it? We worry and worry. We try using a planner to “plan ahead”, but the scariest things in life, such as sickness and injury, can’t be planned out in a book. It can’t be foreseen at all.

So, because of all these thoughts that have been swimming in my head since I have been in bed most of the week, with nothing to do but worry, I have some new goals that I feel would be best mapped out on this blog, so I feel all the more determined to accomplish them.

———————

Goal Outline:

  1. Write more on this blog. It doesn’t matter what I write, as long as it’s all me and it’s accompanied with a visual element of some kind.
  2. Be more crafty and document/blog about the crafts I work on. {Pinterest projects could be fantastic!}
  3. Design more.
  4. Illustrate more.
  5. Finish my novel.
  6. Finish my script.
  7. Create a fresh video for my youtube channel at least once per week.
  8. Be more festive when it comes to the holidays and changing of the seasons and enjoy it all more.
  9. Be kind to everyone as much as possible.
  10. Enjoy life more and get lost in the little moments.
  11. Help others, whether it be with tutorials in video format, blog format, or just helping with chores with family members.
  12. Bake more//make more sweet treats, especially French macaroons.
  13. Write new articles for Paper Aquarium Magazine.
  14. Get more involved in our band’s music again. Jam more.

Well, that’s all of my goals for now in general. I hope to put a lot of this in action and show it to you here on my blog. Thanks so much for following me even though I have been away for quite a long time. I hope the holiday season will inspire me to blog more. I think it will because it usually does.

Monday & Tuesday #3 {Hybrid Post: Pins + Tutorial}

Hi My Lovely Star Fishies!

I took an extra day off! I know. Shame on me. But hey, I only got one day off (the 4th) from real world work…Well, I’m back now, and this post is a hybrid Pin + Tutorial post. Latest pins below:

My page contains my pins and will contain all credits for images so you can see where they came from and find out all about them! :)

http://pinterest.com/maceylou/

TUTORIAL:

I know most people by now probably already know how to do this, but this is going be my tutorial. Hopefully it will be helpful to someone. The tutorial will be me showing you how to pin something from an outside website to pinterest

1. First, I’m guessing you are already signed up on the Pinterest site.

2. Go to the top drop-down menu and pick the link shown below:

3. Next, you put the button in your bookmark bar.

4. Then, visit one of your favorite sites and if you find an image you have to save and look at later or share with the world. I chose for the tutorial, an image from my blog as an example:

5. Then, go to that pin it button that you have on your bookmark bar…

6. Next, you will see a block-like layout with a sort of “catalogue” of photos/images you can choose to pin…unless there is only one image on the page. {There will be a “pin it” button link overlaying the image when you roll-over it.}

7. Click the image you want to pin. It will show you a little dialogue box like in the screenshot below. You can name it whatever you like and choose a category above it. If you want to share it on twitter as well, you have that option, too, if you signed up/linked your twitter with Pinterest.

That’s about it! I hope you enjoyed this hybrid post! Thanks followers and likers! Feel free to leave me feedback. :)

Tutorial Tuesday #2: When Cookie Cups Don’t Work

Hi My Lovely Starfishy Friend-pies,

I saw a picture on Pinterest showing chocolate chip cookie cups for putting your ice cream in! I wanted to try it, so I did try it. However, I failed miserably. Below is what happened…

  1. First, I put some cooking spray on an upside-down muffin/cupcake pan.
  2. Then I grabbed some cookie dough out of the container and into my hand.
  3. You have to shape it in a ball first, of course, I failed at this, so it doesn’t really matter for this tutorial…haha
  4. Flatten the dough out.
  5. See? All flat.
  6. Next I put the chocolate chip cookie dough on the upside-down pan cup. (I did two cookie cups.)
  7. I tried to form it in the cup shape like the end-result pictures I saw. This was a big mistake. My suggestion is to put less cookie dough on the pan than you think you’ll need, but remember, I DID NOT test this method. Remember, I failed…
  8. Oooops! They came out like this. Too much cookie dough and it ran down the sides WAY more than I expected. Trial and error, folks. That’s what happens sometimes.
  9. So we decided to crush up the chocolate chip cookie cups into chunks.
  10. Then, we put them in the blender.
  11. Then we added milk.
  12. Next, we took some neapolitan ice cream…
  13. & we put it in the blender, too.
  14. Add however much ice cream you like, but don’t overload your blender.
  15. Blended.
  16. Served.

What do you all think? I guess I should have followed an actual tutorial to do the cookie cups, but I thought they would be easy. Well, let’s just say the kitchen isn’t the room I spend much time in…

Hope you enjoy your chocolate chip cookie chunk neapolitan milk shakes! Below is a funny/cute/crazy video for your enjoyment:

Recent Pins Monday #2: Relax After Work On A Tree Swing

Hi My Lovely Stars,

Today, I’m pinning some new pins as well as couple not-so-new ones. When I saw this swing above this water, my jaw almost dropped. It’s gorgeous! My dream place to be is there. Right there on that little swing, dangling my feet above the water.

When I think of this group of pins, I think of being at work most of the day in this cute outfit and shoes, then retreating home to this lovely swing in a tree. I’m too eager to change, so I just get straight on the swing in my work clothes, only kicking my heels off before going outside.

You can find me on Pinterest and view more of my pins here.

Recent Pins Monday #1: Fashion, Beauty, & Fun in the Sun

Hi My Lovely Readers,

Monday is Recent Pin Day and so below I’ve compiled some of my recent and favorite pins all in one image as a sort of mood board or inspiration collage.

I had a very stressful day at work today, but fortunately we have an amazing team at the newspaper I work at, so we all put our talents together and pulled through. Seems like we always do somehow. I feel like this pin compilation is a reflection of the serenity we all strive for in life. Having fun, feeling alive–it’s what we all want out of life, isn’t it?

Even though the below pins are my most recent, they are not brand new. I haven’t been pinning lately, but you better believe this post will inspire me to do just that. The emotions and messages I get out of this image of pins is a message of a fun time full of girlyness and summer breezes. The dress is the focal point of the outfit one would wear in this little “inspiration board world.” The necklace gives a sense of whimsy and playfulness as do the delicious Eiffel Bon Bons candies. I actually ate those when I was in high school during my semesters of French. They are hands down my favorite candy in the entire world (so far, haha) and if it were allowed {and healthy} I would buy a ton of them and eat them for every meal. As for the photo of Lucy Hale, I pinned her to my “people” board, but I feel more like in this context she has the make-up and hair that would go perfectly with the outfit and the summer day itself.

The swansea beach radio is, of course, perfect for the seaside, keeping along with our fun summer theme. The bright and cheerful pink room in the backdrop gives us a sense of contemporary color schemes mixed with traditional textures, and let’s face it, it’s just to die for. The molding and every detail in the ceiling is magnificent by itself, without even taking into account the rest of the room.

Notice I didn’t exactly mention prices. I felt like the dress and necklace were quite expensive. Therefore, they are only meant to be a jumping-off point. I’m sure there is a more practical and affordable version of them both out there somewhere. I can’t see myself paying hundreds of dollars for one dress, but maybe that’s just me. Go find your own versions in your local thrift stores, clearance sales, and yard sales!

Another thing I wanted to talk to you guys and gals about is that I, along with Derek Brown, have an online creative magazine called Paper Aquarium Magazine. It’s a magazine full of contributed art, photography, and other creative tid-bits. You can check it out here.

Thanks so much, my lovelies, for reading, liking, and commenting. I can’t express how much I appreciate the time you all take out of your busy lives to read my blog entries.

Hearts & Stars,

MaceyLou
