Bloggy Break This Week! For the Fourth of July Holiday!

Sorry all my lovely mermaids and starfishies! I will be taking a blog vacation this week for the 4th of July! Stay tuned for more adventures, tutorials, pins, sketches, thoughts, and more! Have a fun & safe 4th of July, everyone!

In the meantime, you can check out Paper Aquarium Magazine. It will be updating to the brand new design soon, maybe even this week! It will have not only the usual art submissions, but it will also have articles, as well as videos and an art shop in the future! Check it out today, and stay tuned for updates really soon!

If that is boring to you, you can also check out my portfolio site. It’s still under construction a bit, but the main page has samples of my work that you can take a look at if you are interested.

If you’re still bored to tears, you can socialize with me on twitter, if you wish.

Or if that doesn’t even strike your fancy, you can find some music I like to be a part of here.

Tutorial Tuesday #2: When Cookie Cups Don’t Work

Hi My Lovely Starfishy Friend-pies,

I saw a picture on Pinterest showing chocolate chip cookie cups for putting your ice cream in! I wanted to try it, so I did try it. However, I failed miserably. Below is what happened…

  1. First, I put some cooking spray on an upside-down muffin/cupcake pan.
  2. Then I grabbed some cookie dough out of the container and into my hand.
  3. You have to shape it in a ball first, of course, I failed at this, so it doesn’t really matter for this tutorial…haha
  4. Flatten the dough out.
  5. See? All flat.
  6. Next I put the chocolate chip cookie dough on the upside-down pan cup. (I did two cookie cups.)
  7. I tried to form it in the cup shape like the end-result pictures I saw. This was a big mistake. My suggestion is to put less cookie dough on the pan than you think you’ll need, but remember, I DID NOT test this method. Remember, I failed…
  8. Oooops! They came out like this. Too much cookie dough and it ran down the sides WAY more than I expected. Trial and error, folks. That’s what happens sometimes.
  9. So we decided to crush up the chocolate chip cookie cups into chunks.
  10. Then, we put them in the blender.
  11. Then we added milk.
  12. Next, we took some neapolitan ice cream…
  13. & we put it in the blender, too.
  14. Add however much ice cream you like, but don’t overload your blender.
  15. Blended.
  16. Served.

What do you all think? I guess I should have followed an actual tutorial to do the cookie cups, but I thought they would be easy. Well, let’s just say the kitchen isn’t the room I spend much time in…

Hope you enjoy your chocolate chip cookie chunk neapolitan milk shakes! Below is a funny/cute/crazy video for your enjoyment:

Recent Pins Monday #2: Relax After Work On A Tree Swing

Hi My Lovely Stars,

Today, I’m pinning some new pins as well as couple not-so-new ones. When I saw this swing above this water, my jaw almost dropped. It’s gorgeous! My dream place to be is there. Right there on that little swing, dangling my feet above the water.

When I think of this group of pins, I think of being at work most of the day in this cute outfit and shoes, then retreating home to this lovely swing in a tree. I’m too eager to change, so I just get straight on the swing in my work clothes, only kicking my heels off before going outside.

You can find me on Pinterest and view more of my pins here.

Adventurous Friday #2: Jonesborough, Tennessee, U.S.A.

Hi My Beautiful Starfish,

Last Saturday we went on another adventure. This time we went to downtown Jonesborough. It was a very beautiful and friendly place. Unfortunately we got there after 5:00, so most shops were closed. However, that didn’t stop us from walking around and exploring, taking plenty of photos along the way of course!

I hope you enjoy this week’s Adventurous Friday & my little adventure collage below!:

Below is a photo of me in front of a really neat looking old door in Jonesborough:

I hope you all enjoyed this adventure! Have a great weekend, my lovely friends! Thanks so much for reading!

Thursday Thoughts #2: When People Disappoint Us

Hi My Lovely Reader Wonder-Things,

Today is “Thursday Thoughts: When People Disappoint Us.”

Isn’t it funny and sad how often we as humans get disappointed at our fellow man? We move and writhe in the muck of humanity, and yet we judge each other and ridicule one another. At what gain? We see others make decisions we call mistakes, but when we make our own share of them, it’s called something quite different in our minds.

We touch, look, smell, hear, and taste, but do we really feel, see, listen, and take delight in the juxtapositions of life? There are endless streams flowing into streams flowing into more streams of knowledge, and depth, and height. All these things get pushed aside during the 9 to 5. It’s only: “Let me just survive” or “Let me make it out alive.” What we feel then is not really felt, only dreamt. Our lives become empty hallways of doors never opened, locks never picked, and sights never seen.

Oh, to be able to relax and just breathe. To be able to breathe it all in, feel every detail, every second, every moment standing still before our very eyes. All this so we can touch life again, like a toddler taking it all in. We don’t remember those days. We are far too old and blind to remember anything such as that. We are all dying, weeping, sighing, waiting, and fighting. We’re fighting life out of our very being. We don’t want to hold it in our own hands as we should. We want someone to do that for us, to feel for us.

If we continue this, it will only get worse. There’s only a fraction of our time left spent on our own lives, our own wishes, hopes, and dreams. This fraction will turn into a tiny shard of light, then it will be like a microscopic creature, then nonexistent.

I hope we all change this. I hope we all live free again and feel life again. Strive for it. Live for it.

Tutorial Tuesday #1: Easy & Fast Dinner

Hi My Friends,

If you want to make an easy and fast dinner, read the following instructions. This meal will be spaghetti, salad, garlic French bread, and kiwi:

  • Get your ingredients together. The spaghetti will require spaghetti noodles, sauce (I prefer Ragu, super chunky mushroom), any spices you like on your spaghetti (I actually used salt, pepper, and some kind of chicken seasoning because it is so good), and you’ll have a nicer dinner if you also have some garlic French bread on hand.

  • Now, boil some water in a pan. You’ll obviously want a pan that has tall walls (not a sauce pan). You’ll want to fill the water a little under half way. You don’t want the water to boil over.
  • Once the water is boiled, put the noodles in the pan. You may need to slightly turn down the heat on the stove top so that the water doesn’t boil over. You’ll need to slightly adjust the heat every now and then from “HIGH” to “Medium/High” depending upon how fast you want the noodles to cook.
  • You’ll know the noodles are finished cooking when they are tender enough to cut with a fork. Once they are, turn the heat off and strain the water out of the pan into the sink.
  • Put butter in the spaghetti noodles.
  • Heat your sauce in the microwave in a microwave safe dish (or you can heat the sauce on the stove top in a sauce pan).
  • Pour the sauce over the spaghetti inside the pan, unless you think you may have left-overs later. If you do think you’ll have left-overs, make sure you pour the sauce on the noodles after you put your portioned noodles on your plate/in your bowl. The rest of the unused sauce and noodles needs to be stored separately in the fridge. (Keeping them separated until reheated makes the left-over spaghetti taste better.)
  • Once your spaghetti portions are on either your plate or in your bowl, you can add the spices you like.
  • Next, get your salad ingredients together. You’ll at least need green leaf lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and the dressing of your choice. You can add other things to your own salad as well if you wish, such as olives, peppers, cucumbers, etc…
  • Don’t forget to put a serving of fruit on your plate. I chose kiwi.

Below is your meal all finished and ready to eat. Enjoy! :)

I know this meal is super super easy, but I felt like there needed to be a tutorial out there for all of us who hate to cook, but love food and hate to wait to eat it.

Let me know what you think of this tutorial choice I chose for this Tutorial Tuesday this week.

Recent Pins Monday #1: Fashion, Beauty, & Fun in the Sun

Hi My Lovely Readers,

Monday is Recent Pin Day and so below I’ve compiled some of my recent and favorite pins all in one image as a sort of mood board or inspiration collage.

I had a very stressful day at work today, but fortunately we have an amazing team at the newspaper I work at, so we all put our talents together and pulled through. Seems like we always do somehow. I feel like this pin compilation is a reflection of the serenity we all strive for in life. Having fun, feeling alive–it’s what we all want out of life, isn’t it?

Even though the below pins are my most recent, they are not brand new. I haven’t been pinning lately, but you better believe this post will inspire me to do just that. The emotions and messages I get out of this image of pins is a message of a fun time full of girlyness and summer breezes. The dress is the focal point of the outfit one would wear in this little “inspiration board world.” The necklace gives a sense of whimsy and playfulness as do the delicious Eiffel Bon Bons candies. I actually ate those when I was in high school during my semesters of French. They are hands down my favorite candy in the entire world (so far, haha) and if it were allowed {and healthy} I would buy a ton of them and eat them for every meal. As for the photo of Lucy Hale, I pinned her to my “people” board, but I feel more like in this context she has the make-up and hair that would go perfectly with the outfit and the summer day itself.

The swansea beach radio is, of course, perfect for the seaside, keeping along with our fun summer theme. The bright and cheerful pink room in the backdrop gives us a sense of contemporary color schemes mixed with traditional textures, and let’s face it, it’s just to die for. The molding and every detail in the ceiling is magnificent by itself, without even taking into account the rest of the room.

Notice I didn’t exactly mention prices. I felt like the dress and necklace were quite expensive. Therefore, they are only meant to be a jumping-off point. I’m sure there is a more practical and affordable version of them both out there somewhere. I can’t see myself paying hundreds of dollars for one dress, but maybe that’s just me. Go find your own versions in your local thrift stores, clearance sales, and yard sales!

Another thing I wanted to talk to you guys and gals about is that I, along with Derek Brown, have an online creative magazine called Paper Aquarium Magazine. It’s a magazine full of contributed art, photography, and other creative tid-bits. You can check it out here.

Thanks so much, my lovelies, for reading, liking, and commenting. I can’t express how much I appreciate the time you all take out of your busy lives to read my blog entries.

Adventurous Friday #1: Cherokee Dam & Beach

Hello Lovely Wonder-things,

Today’s blog post has been published so late, I know. I’m so sorry, but I think you all will enjoy this short and sweet photo/art representation of our little adventure.

We went to the Lake by Cherokee Dam. It is not too far from Jefferson City, TN. Just a little drive.

1} A Fisherman’s shop that was on the way there…

2} The signs pointing us to the beach & lake…

3} We’re here!!

4} Me playing around on the swing set in the park area where all the trees are.

5} Well, we got super hungry walking and acting silly and playing around…so we got Hibachi Chicken!!

We also took lots and lots of photos of squirrels, so I cut a jumping squirrel out of a photo and made a pattern of him. I put a color behind the pattern to soften it. I think it would make a lovely tote bag pattern! <3

BEFORE EDITING (only cropped):

AFTER EDITING {Made into a little pattern}:

Any thoughts on my pattern I created? He sort of looks like a little fox, doesn’t he? :)

Sketchbook Wednesday #1

Hello My Lovelies, Yes! We’re starting off the schedule RIGHT! I did my “homework assignment” and took some photos of the first page in my new sketchbook. I am trying to start a comic book, by sketching in a sketchbook. After all the pages are sketched and ready, I will make any edits, changes, revisions, etc. Then I will ink the pages. I’m not sure what type of ink yet, but we’ll see. I’ve been wanting to create a full comic book story for some time now. I have actually finished a very short comic book before, but it was much fewer pages in length than this sketchbook. It may have been around fourteen pages. I can’t remember for certain, and I don’t have it on hand. I hope you all enjoy looking at these very rough sketches. Image With this first page, I am setting the backdrop for my story. The town looks very, well, unique to say the least. It’s full of abnormally tall, yet skinny, buildings that look like they could topple over at any given moment. Image Of course I had to put an art supply shop in the little town. Image I have no idea what to call this little town yet, but it will come to me eventually, I’m sure. Image Above: I designed a 400 x 400 pixel graphic for my blog. Posting it as a little extra design for you all today. Image And last, but not least is a photo I took a couple years ago, slapped my logo and website on it a few minutes ago, and decided to post it. This is also just a little extra sunshine to brighten your day. Do you guys and girls like to illustrate, design, or photograph things? Leave me a comment about it below! Hearts & Stars, MaceyLou

Introduction To Macey’s Misadventures

Hello All,

Macey’s Misadventures is about creativity, design, fun, adventure, illustration, writing, and so much more.

I will do my blog posts by a schedule. The not-so-written-in-stone schedule is below:

Monday = Recent Pins:

This means anything that I have pinned lately on a little site called Pinterest, and feel it would be good to share with you all, it will be included in a blog post on Mondays.

Tuesday = Tutorials:

This means the tutorial I have planned to share for the week will be posted on Tuesdays. Tutorials could be anything from the category of graphic design to the category of photography to the category of home improvement projects (maybe? I dunno). We will see where this one takes us. I know, I know. I didn’t post a tutorial today, but it’s my very first day here and I only thought of this schedule a few hours ago…and I got distracted by YouTube.

Wednesday = Sketchbook Entry:

Wednesdays will be all about sketching, and I will attempt to have a fresh sketch in my sketchbook and uploaded to this blog on Wednesdays…I really will try. Actually, I recently bought a new sketchbook and I want the entire sketchbook, once it is finished, to be a comic book. Oh, we shall see if that goal is accomplished or not.

Thursday = Thoughts:

Thursday Thoughts. It has a ring to it, doesn’t it. Thursdays will be all about me. That didn’t sound conceded at all, did it? Anyway, so on good old Thursday you will get a glimpse inside my brain. Scary, no?

Friday = Adventures:

Yes, FINALLY! The most important day of the week for the blog is Friday. Want to know why? It will be about my (mis)adventures. That’s what the blog is all about, isn’t it? Wait, yes, it is. Why did I ask you that?

So, what do I mean by “adventures”? Well, that’s where it gets interesting. I’ll leave it up to your imagination until a Friday adventure arrives in your RSS feed. Don’t forget to subscribe and follow me!
